MCH SCOPE OF SERVICE
The Maternity and Children Hospital (MCH) in Buraidah is a governmental hospital was opened in Rajab 1423. It provides secondary care for Buraidah city (population about 600,000) and tertiary care for Al Qassim region(population about 1,500,000) for maternity and pediatric services. The Hospital provides medical and surgical care for children from age of zero up to 12 years. It provides as well Obstetrical and gynecological care for all age group. The Hospital provides specialized pediatric services for cardiology, hematology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases. The hospital is recognized as training centre for pediatric, Obstetrics and gynecology. The Medical student of Al Qassim University attend OB/GYNE and pediatric undergraduate course in the hospital, it provide training for the Intern.
The hospital consists of 248 beds and there is a new extension of 250 beds which will be opened next year.
We are the MCH providing specialized medical care in the field of Pediatric, Obstetric and Gynecology for Buraidah and Qassim population through continuous improvement of staff performance and work based on education and training to achieve customer satisfaction.
To increase our scope of service especially in subspecialty services to decrease the referral cases outside the region. To create positive healthy environment by an integrated and advanced team to achieve CBAHI accreditation.
Hospital staff works according to Islamic, Medical and nursing either to customers satisfaction.
The Hospital consist of the following department
The Gynecology & Obstetrics Department contains 103 beds and performs around 8,000 deliveries per year.
The Department provides high-quality care in the field of womens health. it offer a wide scope of services that address every phase a woman experiences throughout her life time, from pre-reproductive care through to the child-bearing and post-menopausal years. The department is chaired by Senior Consultant with other three consultants. There are four units each unit consists of Consultant and 5 Registrars, the Resident cover all area of the hospital with (8) hours shift. The On Call Team consists of Consultant, (3) Registrars and (4) Residents. The registrar works (12) hours shift while the consultant works (24) hours. The patient will be seen under the care of Consultant . Patient admitted from OPD, ER or referred from other hospitals. All patients will be admitted under the care of Consultant in all area.
The OB/GYN Department consists of the following divisions
1. OB. Ward has (71) beds in three (3) areas
OB.Ward I (22 beds) For Antenatal Care
OB.Ward II (24 beds) For Post Operative Cases
OB.Ward III(25 beds) For Post Partum Vaginal deliveries
2. GYN. Ward has (34) beds in two (2) areas
GYN.Ward I (13) beds
GYN.Ward II (21) beds
3. Labor Room & Delivery Room
Labor Room- LR-(20 beds) - 10 for prenatal - 10 for postnatal
2 rooms of prenatal located for infectious diseases and PET
The patient in DR Continues monitoring by partogram and CTG.
Delivery Room(DR) (3) Rooms
NVD conducted by the resident who works 8hours shift under the supervision of the registrar who works 12hours shift.
The unit is staffed by Head Midwife and 20 Midwifes.
Pediatric beds consist of the follow divisions:
1. General pediatric . 33 beds
2. NICU. 60 beds
This busy unit divided into two (2) areas.
SC BU 32 beds
Intensive care ward .. 28 beds
The babies will be admitted from Delivery Room ,post natal ward and NICU of the other hospital of the region .It provide medical and nursery care for all newborn babies with surgical, neurological medical, craniological problem, and it also provide post surgical care of all newborn. The NICU pediatric team will provide 24hours care for the unit
3 PICU . 7 beds
This is the only Pediatric Intensive care unit in the region it is staffed by Consultant who provide the care from 7:30AM 5:00PM by daily round with his team(2registrars and 4 residents) on daily basis from Saturday to Wednesday . He shares the On Call Rota with Neonatologist (1:4) .It receives patients from ER, Pediatric ward and from other hospital of the region. One bed reserved for non mechanical ventilators for maternal patient. The adult patient will be admitted under care of Obstetrician Consultant, Medical Specialist and the Consultant Anesthesiologist. The adult patient will be shifted to KFSH Buraidah for further management if there is need for intensive care or multidisciplinary care.

- The cardiac patients will be admitted to general pediatric ward, PICU, or NICU depending on their age and medical condition
It is well equipped with endoscopy unit for upper and lower GIT and PH monitoring, patient will be admitted to general pediatric ward.

8. Intermediate care (step down)
- Consist of 8 beds with the full cardio respiratory monitor .It provides intermediate care either pre ICU or post ICU discharge. Four of its beds are occupied by chronic vegetative patient.
- The On Call pediatrian team provides 24hours cover for the unit.
It has (17) beds for General Surgery and Neonate. It is a tertiary care center for Al Qassim Region. The Pediatric Surgery Department provides service from 0-12 years. The Department staffed by 2 Consultant ,5 Registrar and 3 Residents The Consultant and Registrar works 24 hours , provide continues medical care while the Resident works 8 hours shift.
Day Surgery Unit
This is a newly established unit for day surgery and consists of (8) beds
4 beds for pediatric surgery
4 beds for OBGYN
Operating Room and Anesthesia Department
It consist of 5 operative rooms, well equipped by Anesthetic machine and Cardio Respiratory monitoring including CO2 and tidal volume
2 rooms for elective OB/GYNE
1 room for Pediatric surgery
1 room for Emergency
1 Recovery rooms ( 4 beds equipped with Cardio respiratory monitor )
The department is staffed by: 3 Consultant,5 Specialist,4 Resident, 6 Aesthetician technician and 10 Circulatory nurses.
The bed capacity of emergency department is 50 beds.
The Emergency department consist of :
1- Ob & Gyn Emergency.
2- Pediatric Emergency.
4- Admission office.
It is consist of the following area.
patient will be triage according to their condition to the candian scale , the patient will be referred to examination room according to the condition.
2. Examination Room
There are 2 rooms for examination to evaluate the patient.
3. Two Ultrasound Scanning Room for urgent ultrasound assessment.
4. Observation Room: There are 10 beds for observation; the maximum time of patients to stay is 6 hours.
5. Delivery Room: for emergency delivery.
The ER is staffed by Resident who works 8hours shift ,the Registrar will work with the Resident to provide 2nd On Call for the Resident. The Consultant on Call for OB department will cover ER as will.
1- Triage Area
All patients will be seen in triage except those who are very ill; they will be shifted directly to resuscitation.
2- The yellow area
For critical and urgent cases. It has 5 beds for examination , 2 beds for resuscitation and one bed for minor operation .The yellow area is supervised by registrar 24hours /day .
3- Fast Track Area
This is a new area designed to reduce the waiting time for patient with simple problem and this will be reflected by reducing overcrowding in small ER area. There is one resident and one nursing staff to review patients with simple problem who will not need observation during the peak hours only.
4 Ambulatory Area
There are (4) clinics, the number of clinic varies according to the patient\'s volume.
5 - Observation area has 12 beds within (2) two area
- 5beds for MALE watcher
- 7beds for FEMALE watcher
6- EMERGENCY Clinic
Three session per week , the patient will be referred from the emergency room for follow-up with a maximum of 2 visit without need for hospital file.
The Laboratory Services department is open around the clock. It is very well equipped with modern technology and has a dedicated staff.
It consistes of the following division:
A- Haematology and Blood Bank
Microbiology and Parasitology B-
D- Serology and Virology
Laboratory Department staffed by Head of Department , Registrars ,Technicians , Nurses and clerks.
The Pharmacy provide the following service
1. The 24-hour In-Patient Pharmacy and for ER patient
2. The Female Out-Patient Pharmacy and Male Out-Patient Pharmacy located at the polyclinics, serving patients during working hours All prescr iption done through the hospital internet..
3. Total parental nutrient TPN
4. Chemotherapy for Oncology patient
The Pharmacy staff includes the Head of the Pharmacy department, 5 Qualified Pharmacists, and 15 Pharmacy technicians. The highly motivated pharmacists and Clinical Pharmacists strive to provide outstanding pharmaceutical care for all our patients.
Physical Therapy Department
It has 6 female physical therapist technicians and 1 doctor.
There is a one partum of physician 2days a week, Sunday and Wednesday.

Physiotherapists develop programs designed to teach patients how to relieve pain, restore function, and enhance health.
The Radiology Department is a vital part of MCH, providing 24 hours/day and 7 days/week services for in-patients as well as out-patients (emergency, trauma, Family Medical Centers).
The Radiology Department is equipped by PACS. All the request and picture are communicated electronically by PACS.
